Internship Opportunities

Lyric Arts Company of Anoka is a non-profit community theater geared toward entertainment and educational opportunities for people of all ages.  The mission of Lyric Arts is building community and nurturing artists and audiences of all ages through the magic of live theater. We accomplish this by providing opportunities for artists and audiences of all ages to experience and celebrate these art forms in their community.

Title: Marketing and Public Relations Intern

Salary: Unpaid, possible course credit

Time Commitment: 8-12 hours per week; Spring, Summer or Fall Semesters

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Working with the Production Manager, this internship will provide valuable experience in developing marketing and audience development skills, as well as learn about day-to-day operations of a nonprofit theater.  The marketing and public relations intern will learn about the basics of working with print, radio, and internet media.  The intern will also have the opportunity to work on special projects depending on the needs of the theater.

Responsibilities

  • Write press releases and other materials as needed
  • Contact various media outlets
  • Update online media services
  • Assist in the distribution of press materials
  • Maintain files of press materials
  • Brainstorm promotional grassroots ideas that will effectively increase interest in Lyric Arts
  • Designing print materials, advertisements, flyers, and online advertising as needed.
  • Assist with research, development, and compiling content for advertising materials
  • Assist in the creation of outreach materials for The Club
  • Coordinate and participate in special projects, promotional activies, and events where support services are needed
  • Other marketing and PR projects as needed
  • Other special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Theatre Arts, Nonprofits, PR, Marketing, or other related field
  • Interest in communications, marketing and public relations, and nonprofits
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Creativity
  • Positive, “can-do” attitude, even under pressure
  • Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task
  • Detail-oriented and self-directed
  • Computer proficient, includes MS Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with web-based networking sites, including Twitter, Facebook, and blog sites
  • Takes direction well
