Evolution of a Set: “Doubt, A Parable” Day Ten

August 31st, 2009

Day Ten

8/31/09, 11:00 a.m.:  Take a closer look-Patrick (in the pulpit) and our set crew volunteers take a moment to discuss paint colors while building the set.  And did you notice the floor was painted over the weekend?  Well, base-coated anyway.  Lyric Arts staff never sleeps.

Evolution of a Set: “Doubt, A Parable” Day Nine

August 28th, 2009

Day Nine

8/28/09, 11:00 a.m.: Today we have a railing design change. Also, the electrics are in because Dan Thorson, our Lighting Director, is working on light hang. This was one of the few times the whole theater won’t be blacked-out today…good thing Patrick has night vision!

Welcome to our new website!

August 27th, 2009

Yes, the day has finally come! Lyric Arts has demolished the old website to make room for this shiny new one. Hip, hip, hurray!

We made the change to incorporate two new features, the first of which you are experiencing now. This “recent news” section will help you stay up to date with information about what’s going on at the Main Street Stage, including important announcements. We’re also going to give you some “behind the scenes” looks at how a production comes together, beginning with our “Evolution of a Set” project that we are working on for the first show in our 2009-2010 season, “Doubt.” (coming soon!)

Just click this button () at the top of the screen to subscribe to our news feed and updates will be sent directly to your e-mail.

The second new feature is just as exciting. You will now be able to purchase tickets online (full info here), allowing you to purchase tickets at whatever time of the day is convenient for you!

We hope that you are as pleased with the new site as we are. Let us know what you think! We can’t wait to hear from you!

Evolution of a Set: “Doubt, A Parable” Day Eight

August 27th, 2009

Day Eight

8/27/09, 11:00 a.m.: Patrick’s standing next to the newly-made pulpit. Can you guess why it’s so many different colors? Lyric Arts recycles everything, so the wood is actually from the walls of the “Plaza Suite,” and “Meet Me in St. Louis.”

Evolution of a Set: “Doubt, A Parable” Day Seven

August 26th, 2009

Day Seven

8/26/09, 11:00 a.m.: First coat of the painting has begun with the help of our hard-working set crew volunteers! Also, that lonely rosebush will eventually have more friends!

Evolution of a Set: “Doubt, A Parable” Day Six

August 25th, 2009

Day Six

8/25/09, 11:00 a.m.: Can you spot what’s different today?
Answer: The “concrete wall” in the background was the difference! Built by a volunteer, guided by Patrick (Technical Director)

Evolution of a Set: “Doubt, A Parable” Day Five

August 24th, 2009

Day Five

8/24/09, 11:00 a.m.: Nothing much happening on stage, as we’ve been working on the pulpit (or, more correctly, the “ambo”) in the scene shop. It should make it to the stage within the week…so keep your eyes peeled!

Evolution of a Set: “Doubt, A Parable” Day Four

August 21st, 2009

082109

8/21/09, 11:00 a.m.: See? A concrete bench loaned from a Lyric Arts’ audience member/supporter has replaced the wooden bench! Voila! Also, you might be able to pick out the hallway walls in the background.

Evolution of a Set: “Doubt, A Parable” Day Three

August 20th, 2009

Day Three

8/20/09, 11:00 a.m.: Notice anything different? Yep, we added benches and a little more wall. The benches are in place to mark where other scenic pieces will eventually go.

Evolution of a Set: “Doubt, A Parable” Day Two

August 19th, 2009

Day Two

8/19/09, 11:00 a.m.: We have a wall, well part of one anyway.
