August 31st, 2010Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Eight
Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Eight: It is rush, rush, rush to get as much done as possible for our publicity photos! If you’ve enjoyed our productions before, you know that things change a great deal in the last couple of weeks leading up to the opening night. At this point we’re planning on wallpaper, and that should arrive shortly. What others things do we need that you’re not seeing from the Set Design Renderings? (located at the top).
Evolution of a Set: “Cat…” Day Seven
August 27th, 2010Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Seven
Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Seven: All the furniture was cleared so that the set crew could get to work on painting this lovely floor! Pretty neat, right? Now we’ll find out how happy the cast was to reset the entire stage with the furniture…
Evolution of a Set: “Cat…” Day Six
August 26th, 2010Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Six
Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Six: Drafts are almost gone as the walls are coming together nicely. Up next? Painting the floor. It looks as though Scenic Designer Todd Edwards was looking for hardwood floors, so we’ll have to see what Tech Director Patrick Vital-Schwartz comes up with!

Evolution of a Set: “Cat…” Day Five
August 25th, 2010Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Five
Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Five: Yes, its a wall! But its just a little “drafty” right now. This will prove to be one of our tallest sets, but we like to use up the space! Now its work, work, work, so we can get this all set for publicity photos!
Evolution of a Set: “Cat…” Day Four
August 23rd, 2010Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Four
Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Four: Initial construction of the raked stage is complete, and clearly, Tech Director Patrick Vital-Schwartz is excited about it (seen here pretending to surf the rake)! Quite the change only a few days make! Now time for some walls to start making this house really shape up. We try to re-use lumber whenever we can, so don’t be surprised if you see the wallpaper from another show up on the walls during construction. We paint over that, but we practice “green” whenever we can!
Evolution of a Set: “Cat…” Day Three
August 20th, 2010Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Three

Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Three: Our set thus far is proof positive that the saying “heavy hands make light work” as our set is coming together rapidly with the help of our skilled volunteers! Rehearsal should be interesting tonight as the actors familiarize themselves with walking at an angle!

Evolution of a Set: “Cat…” Day Two
August 19th, 2010Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Two
Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Two: Lyric Arts is excited to announce that we are building our first raked stage! What’s that, you ask? That is where the back of the stage is at a higher level than the front of the stage, but it still looks like a “normal” floor because it is angled only slightly. So all of the platforms that can be seen on the back of the stage will become that “raked” stage. What other productions have you seen with a raked stage that you can think of?
Evolution of a Set: “Cat…” Day One
August 18th, 2010Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day One:
Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day One:
Welcome to our 10th year on the Main Street Stage and our first Evolution of a Set series! August is our “dark” month where the staff tries to get things caught up, but it really isn’t dark as we are still working on projects and building sets. This Evolution of a Set is neat because our Technical Director is bringing to life the ideas from Scenic Designer Todd Edwards.
And the cast is currently using the furniture you see on stage to block their movements, but it may not necessarily be the furniture they use on stage. Also, the backdrop will probably not keep the “Connect Four” look that we had for the production All Shook Up. So it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work on bringing this set to life!
