Meet Jessica Hendricks!

September 7th, 2010

Meet Jessica Hendricks, Lyric Arts’ new Audience Development Manager!   She will be overseeing our “front of house” operations including ticket sales, group sales, marketing, and more!  We sat down with Jessica for a quick chat in order to get to know her a little better.

LA: What do you do in the rest of your life?

JH: I live in good ol’ Anoka with my fiance David, and our kitten Boba Fett.  You wouldn’t know it to talk to me, but I’m an old fashioned Suzy Homemaker at heart, I love messing with crafts, cooking, and baking.  Then, there’s the not-so-secret obsession with video games, after a stressful day, you’ll find me wailing away on my plastic drum set.

LA:  What do you enjoy most about working at Lyric Arts thus far?

JH: The people of course!  I’ve never met such a great group who balance hard work with fun and laughter.

LA:  What is your background?

JH: My undergraduate degree was in Global Studies and International Journalism at Hamline University.  After working in the for-profit arena, I decided it wasn’t for me, and returned to Hamline and got my Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management in 2009, where my focus was on marketing in nonprofits.

LA: Do you spend time at Lyric Arts in any other capacity?

JH: I began volunteering at Lyric Arts in 2009, and sat on the Publicity Committee, helping Joanna get the word out about all the wonderful productions.

LA: Anything else you’d like to touch on.

JH: I’m super excited about being a part of the team here at Lyric Arts!

Welcome, Jessica!  Lyric Arts is thrilled to have to you!

Evolution of a Set: “Cat…”: Day Eleven

September 3rd, 2010

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Eleven

Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Eleven: Lighting Director Dan Thorson has been working diligently for the last few days to get things all set for “tech week.”  The sooner the lights are designed and set for a show, the better chance the actors on stage have to adjust their blocking to familiarize themselves with where to look, when to move, etc.  Pretty intricate stuff!

Evolution of a Set: “Cat…”: Day Ten

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Ten

Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Ten: The wallpaper is going up so well that we had to order more!  The pictures don’t do it justice.  Also new that we didn’t discuss yesterday is the type of backdrop we are using for this production.  It is not our normal scrim, it is parachute material that can used in a number of different ways for lighting techniques, including (drumroll) FIREWORKS!  Fireworks?….On stage?  Yep.  We’re not going to say anything more…you have to come see it for yourself!

Evolution of a Set: “Cat…”: Day Nine

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Nine

Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Nine: We say wallpaper, and what appears?  Wallpaper!  Set Crew Volunteer Bob Ceminski (pictured) first brushed every inch of the walls and sanded and removed and debris so that the wallpaper could go on smoothly without any bubbling.  We think its looking great!  What do you think, folks?
