From the Director
She Loves Me is a musical oozing with charm, romance, and elegance. We are looking for self-possessed actors who are strong singers (there are no non-singing roles) and confident movers.
Please prepare 16-32 bars of any up-tempo showtune and a one to two minute monologue. You must provide your own sheet music in the appropriate key. Dress for dance.
Amalia Balash: Lands a job as the newest clerk at Maraczek’s Parfumerie. Quick-witted and clever. Views life through an optimistic and romantic lens. Impulsive and attractive. 20s-early 30s. Vocal range C4-B5. Must be a strong singer.
Georg Nowack: A sweet and smart man. A rock-steady and highly valued clerk at Maraczek’s. His shyness sometimes keeps him from acting upon his considerable romantic notions. 20s-early 30s. Vocal range B2-F4.
Ilona Ritter: Employed at Maraczek's Parfumerie. She is self-assured, sexy and direct. Becoming a bit disillusioned about love. 20s-30s. Vocal range F#3-E5. Strong dancer.
Ladislav Sipos: Like everybody’s favorite uncle. Friendly and trustworthy. A long-time, though not outstanding, employee at Maraczek’s. 30s-50s. Vocal range A2-E4.
Steven Kodaly: Smooth talking, stylish, and successful clerk at Maraczek’s. Something of a ladies man. A little oily. 20s-30s. Vocal range B2-A4. Good dancer.
Arpad Lazlo: Enthusiastic and upbeat delivery boy at Maraczek's. Likable and eager to please. Age: 15-18. Vocal range Bb2-E4.
Mr. Maraczek: A generous man of substance. A stickler for quality on the job. Owner of the parfumerie. A loving husband. 40-60. Vocal range B2-C4.
Head Waiter: The prim and frazzled man in charge at Café Imperiale. He strives to provide a “romantic atmosphere” for his customers. Strong comedic timing a must. Will double in ensemble. Vocal range C3-F4.
Ensemble: A small and busy ensemble to play shop customers, carolers, townspeople, café customers, a detective, a nurse, a busboy, etc. Skilled singers and dancers.
