Director's Take: Revenge of the Space Pandas Opening April 28

Our Production Director, Brian J. Proball is making his Lyric Arts directorial debut with our production of Revenge of the Space Pandas. Pulitzer-prize winning playwright, David Mamet, pens this colorful children's sci-fi fantasy full of vibrant characters and hilarious dialogue perfectly suited to our second annual Theater for Young Performers production.

Binky Rudich, his friend Viv, and his almost human sheep Bob, tinker with a two-speed clock with the idea that, as Binky says, "Time on Earth moves at the same speed all the time, but there is another speed, a slower speed, and if we could find it, everything would stand still on Earth and we would spin off." And they do! To Crestview, Fourth World in the Goolagong System, ruled by George Topax and guarded by the Great Space Pandas.

Revenge of the Space Pandas marks Brian’s first time directing at Lyric Arts and his fourth season on staff as Production Director. Brian has been a scenic designer in the Twin Cities for over twenty years and has designed twenty four productions for Lyric Arts including RENT, Young Frankenstein, and Grease.  Brian has an MFA in Scenic Design from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and a BFA in Lighting from the University of Minnesota, Duluth.  He has enjoyed scenic designing for Lakeshore Players, Daleko Arts, the Phipps Center for the Arts, Savage Umbrella, and Stages Theatre Co. over the past few seasons as well.  Brian would like to thank Lyric Arts for the support and opportunity as he continues to grow as an artist and also thank Joe, Jenna, Will, and Lea for their support in the rehearsal room. It has been a blast!
