Our May 19 benefit concert, An Evening with Kate & Louis, will be a night of fun and fundraising, including a special performance by two of Lyric Arts’ favorites: actor/singer, Kate Beahen, and Resident Music Director, Louis Berg-Arnold. Together, they will treat the audience to a light-hearted evening of classic, favorite songs, and though Kate promises there won’t be “too much gabbing,” the charming duo will no doubt share a few stories about their experiences in the performing arts, and at Lyric Arts in particular. Kate good-naturedly warns, “I’ll probably give Louis a hard time.”

Both Kate and Louis are veterans of the Lyric Arts stage. Kate was seen most recently in Always…Patsy Cline, for which Louis served as music director. Louis is also the music director for our current production, She Loves Me. It’s clear when talking to both of them that they are not only Lyric Arts artists, but fans as well.

“Lyric Arts was my first theater home when I moved to the Twin Cities,” says Louis. “There is something about the community of artists that gather at Lyric Arts that is so warm and welcoming, and I think it's a big part of why we all keep coming back.” Impressed by what he calls the theater’s “constant drive for excellence,” Louis finds it particularly rewarding to witness the growth that has happened since he first set foot on this stage seven years ago. “Every person at Lyric Arts is always doing everything they can to raise the level of artistic quality,” he notes.

Kate echoes that sentiment. “I started performing at Lyric Arts over twenty years ago and through those years Lyric Arts has been such a cornerstone for our Minnesota theater scene. Everyone I know who has graced this stage loves working at Lyric Arts and everyone who visits the theater to watch a show has the same reaction—warmth, awe, and love.” Kate has been especially thrilled to watch Lyric Arts transform from a community theater to a professional theater that, as she puts it, “stands among the other giants in this community with pride, grace, and recognition.”

We hope you’ll come share that pride in Lyric Arts during a night filled with show-stopping tunes, desserts, drinks, games, prizes, raffles, a wine pull, a silent auction, and more! An Evening with Kate & Louis is one night-only, so don’t miss out!
