On my first day of work last week, I noticed that right outside the office was the poster for the show Tom Sawyer. In the very bottom right hand corner, I found a picture of 6th grade me. I participated in two shows at Lyric Arts, Tom Sawyer in 6th grade and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in 7th. The following pictures from these shows are neither glamorous nor flattering. In fact, 6th and 7th grade were the two most painfully awkward years of my life (thus far!). Participating in theater, however, was the key to surviving those bizarre middle school years. It gave me friends, a place of belonging, and a reason to feel proud of myself (despite the braces and bad perm).
What has theater done for you? Has it helped you through a particularly difficult period in your life? I'd love to hear your stories!
