The full line-up for the Americana Showcase show has just been announced! If you have ever seen any of these songwriters before, you know what kind of fantastic evening you are in for. If you haven't, take a minute to talk to those who have, then buy your tickets! See you there!

The New Standards are coming to Lyric Arts!

Lyric Arts is so excited to bringing the jazz-flavored trio, The New Standards, to the Main Street Stage on June 15, 2011 at 7:30 pm. The New Standards are an odd minimalist trio (piano, stand-up bass, and vibraphone) that play their favorite pop songs with a jazz-flavored, bare-boned soul. John Munson, bass/vocals, was an original member of Trip Shakespeare and went double-platinum with his next group, Semisonic. Chan Poling, piano/vocals, founded the punk-pop outfit The Suburbs and writing music for the theater, television and films. Steve Roehm, vibes, began his career in the wild Texas punk group Billygoat and also played in the avant-jazz-funk-fusion group Electropolis.

“On its self-titled debut, jazz trio The New Standards takes pop and rock tunes, such as All the Young Dudes, Only Love Can Break Your Heart and The New Pollution, then strips them down and juices them back up with vocals, piano, bass and totally cool vibes. It’s a bit quirky, but it works.” – The New York Post

Tickets for The New Standards are just $18 to $22 and are available online or by calling the Box Office at 763-422-1838.

Roma di Luna live on May 18th!

Don't miss the soulful harmonies of bluegrass-folk group, Roma di Luna on the Main Street Stage on May 18, 2011 at 7:30 p.m! Roma di Luna started out as the simple yet profound folk-singing duo of Alexei and Channy Moon Casselle, busking at Farmer’s Markets and on street corners, playing songs from the great tradition of American folk music.  But soon the two talented songwriters began writing their own powerful songs, releasing CDs Face of My Friends (2006) and Find Your Way Home (2007) to wide acclaim and a growing fan base.  The Roma family then began to evolve into a full band on 2008’s Casting the Bones, widening their net to include a variety of musical styles and thrilling performances. Now with the dynamic rhythm section of Ben Durrant, James Everest and Ryan Lovan, as well as vocalist Jessi Prusha, Roma di Luna has come into its own on their latest, award winning full-length recording, Then The Morning Came (2010).

With the love and growth of the Roma di Luna family, Then The Morning Came builds on the talents of the full band and the cornerstones of American music, but contains its own exciting locomotive power. With a group of musicians as talented as Roma di Luna, it is no surprise that they have taken those roots and made a powerful record that is wholly and passionately their own

Roma di Luna was recently named City Pages Best Folk Artists of 2011. When asked about their music, lead vocalist, Channy Moon Casselle said, “One thing I don’t know about Roma di Luna is what genre we are in.  We take it a song at a time and often end up with something that isn’t folk, but I like to think of us as still making music for the people and that is folk music to me.” The Roma di Luna concert on May 18 at Lyric Arts marks the first time the whole band has performed together since December 2010. “We’ve been dancing in and out of a much needed hiatus/sabbatical since later December…One thing I do know about Roma di Luna is that we put on a good show.  We haven’t won any awards in this category, but I know it to be true,” commented Moon Casselle.

The Roma di Luna concert will allow fans to have an up-close, intimate chance to hear the stories behind their favorite songs.  The acoustic melodies will waft through the 228-seat theater, as fans tap their toes and clap along to the music.

Tickets for Roma di Luna range from $16 to $20 and are available by calling the Box Office at 763-422-1838 or buy them now online.
