#LyricArtsIsLegal – 21st Season Brings Big Things

Lyric Arts has turned 21! We have reached “adulthood” and we are officially legal.

Now, you may be asking yourself, when we say “Lyric Arts is Legal” and reached “adulthood”, what do we mean?

“Saying, ‘We’ve turned 21, so now we are legal,’ started as a joke amongst staff members. But, it has really struck a chord with our community of artists and audiences because, in some ways, it is a really accurate description of where we are as a theater company. Lyric Arts has come out of its adolescence and is beginning the next step in its development. It’s our early adulthood,” says Laura Tahja Johnson, Lyric Arts’ Executive and Artistic Director.

Here at Lyric Arts, we have always set the goal of delivering high quality theater and valuable education programs, but this year we are bringing some big things.  We are really taking things to new levels and we need your support to keep the momentum moving forward.

This last week, we officially became a participating member of the Ivey Awards, an organization in the Twin Cities that recognizes the work of professional theaters.  For years, we have been producing professional level work, however, this will be the first year that we will be recognized as such within the theater community.  This is a big step for us that we are thrilled to be making, together along with you, our long-time and new supporters.

“It is incredibly exciting that we have 85 professional theaters in the Twin Cities.  The Ivey Awards has watched Lyric Arts mature from its roots as a community theater to its current status as a professional theater.  We are excited to have the theater company on board and joining us in celebrating our tremendous theater community,” says Scott Mayer of the Ivey Awards.

Beyond becoming a part of the Ivey Awards, this 21st season really is a big year for Lyric Arts, which offers a full season of live theater (including musicals, dramas, comedies, and children’s productions) and intimate live music events.

As we began our 21st season, our second show, Always... Patsy Cline had a nearly 100% sold out run.  And we are looking forward to the popular A Christmas Story along with our other holiday show Twas the Night Before Christmas.  We have an ambitious slate of shows this year that really speaks to the heart of everyone.

In addition to our theatrical performances our education program is growing by leaps and bounds.  This past summer, we had our inaugural youth performance company show in August and we are looking to expand that program this coming summer with some returning and new members.

Our educational workshop program is also growing as we are adding more and more workshops for all ages, including adults. Those programs run three sessions: Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer.  Registration for our Winter/Spring session begins on Wednesday, November 16.

We've Come A Long Way

We have come so far from our roots in community theater in a small space to a professional performing arts theater. The Main Street Stage (formerly the Anoka Cinema Building) was fully renovated in 2001 and features free parking, a warm and welcoming environment, and a cozy 228-seat bowl-style theater with comfortable stadium seating—there really isn’t a bad seat in the house!  The Lyric Arts’ lobby boasts a concession stand and bar, serving wine, beer, candy, soft drinks, fresh-popped popcorn, Caribou Coffee, and other hot beverages, all of which you can take right into the theater with you.  We truly hope you feel at home when you visit us.

We invite you to experience Lyric Arts with as the only full-time, year-round theatre in the northern metropolitan area with 10 productions annually and three full sessions of educational workshops!

Help Us Reach Our Give to the Max Day Goal

Please support us during this crucial fundraising period as we seek to raise $21,000 to celebrate how far we have come in our 21 years – and where we are excited to be going in the next 21 years.  Please join us on our journey into adulthood!

#CheersTo21Years - Monthly Sustainer Goal

In addition, for this Give to the Max campaign, we would like to increase our the number of monthly sustaining donations.  By year's end, we would like to enlist 210 monthly donations of $21 or more AND by the end of the year, we would like to have 2100 monthly donations of $21 or more.  We know that we have such a passionate group of supporters and we believe that achieving this goal is possible.  If everyone who loves Lyric Arts, gives a little each month (and if their company matches) we will be able to meet our financial goals in a more consistent way.

Become a #Cheersto21Years sustainer today and invite your friends and family to do the same!

You can donate two ways and both count towards our $21,000 Give to the Max goal.
