Meet Megan Ward who is performing in How I Became a Pirate
/Meet Megan Ward, who is performing as Scurvy Dog the Pirate in How I Became a Pirate. Read on to learn about the rehearsal process, how she’s developing her character, and why you should take a chance on this show!
LA: Tell us a little bit about why this particular play interested you?
MW:I just love the book, as a former Pre-K teacher I read it to the kids and they LOVED it, I really wanted to be a part of that, plus I wanted to work with Kris and Laura again!
LA: For those that are unfamiliar with How I Became a Pirate can you tell us about the show?
MW: Jeremy Jacob is a young boy who gets noticed for his digging skills by a pirate crew, they ask him to join their crew and the adventure begins! They teach each other about the lives they lead and have a lot of pirate fun!
LA: What is your pirate name? How did your character get this pirate name?
MW: My pirate is named Scurvy Dog, and scurvy has an ailment… she barks after everything she says, so the other pirates started calling her Scurvy Dog
LA: Talk about your fellow cast members, how do you see their characters developing? Any that you are particularly amazed at?
MW: All of the pirates are great, but I am particularly amazed by Alec who plays Jeremy Jacob! He is such a pro at such a young age!
LA: What do you feel are the "wow" elements of How I Became a Pirate
MW: The soccer game on the ship is pretty cool!
LA: What is your favorite pirate movie?
MW: Muppet Treasure Island! I just love the twist on the classic tale!
LA: What is the best pirate job to have and why?
MW: Driving the boat for sure! It’s easy and rewarding!
LA: What is your favorite song from How I Became a Pirate and why?
MW: Read the Map, because I love the Gilbert and Sullivan essence to it!
LA: What is your favorite pirate word/slang/phrase?
MW:You hornswaggling Scurcy Dog give me back me cutlass!!!
LA: Please tell us a little bit about yourself?
MW: I am an activity coordinator for Walker Plaza right here in Anoka, it’s a wonderfully rewarding job! I am also mom to a precocious 11 year old who keeps me on my toes. I love to be on stage and am thrilled to get the chance whenever I can!
