Lyric Arts had a chance to interview Renee Chizek who is performing as Urleen in Footloose. Read on to hear what she has to say about her experience thus far! LA: Tell us a little bit about why this particular musical interested you?
RC: Footloose is one of my favorite movies, and I have the voice for a rock musical. I also really wanted to be in a show at Lyric Arts and I thought this would be a good show for it!
LA: Talk about the character that you play in Footloose. How have you developed this character?
RC: My Character is one of Ariel’s friends, her name is Urleen. She isn’t the brightest bulb in the box but she tries her best. She likes to flirt and make known her attraction to people verbally and physically. She’s not very smart but she knows what she wants, and she tries her hardest to let people know.
LA: Why should people come and see Footloose?
RC: Why shouldn’t you come is the question! You have nothing to lose, your life will be changed forever after watching this show. You’ll want to dance for eternity after seeing this show and you will never tell a person ever again that they can’t dance.
LA: Talk about your fellow cast members, how do you see their characters developing? Any that you are particularly amazed at?
RC: The cast of Footloose is such a family, I love every person in this show. Each person is an individual and it’s fun to see how they use their individuality on stage to create their character. Each person has their strengths and places of improvement, and I just love this support system we all have!
LA: What do you feel are the "wow" elements of Footloose?
RC: This show is a triple threat! Wow to everything in this show. The dancing, the singing and the acting, all so well done, that wow is an understatement.
LA: What is your favorite aspect of the show?
RC: The dancing is amazing, difficult at times but so breathtaking once it’s perfected!
LA: Tell us what is something that you are particular excited about this show coming to together? For example, a certain scene, costumes, set, lights, etc?
RC: "Holding out for a Hero"! Power to the ladies who dance in it! You guys do a wonderful job! Putting it all together it’s going to blow the audiences mind out of their seat! J
LA: What is your favorite play or musical? Why?
RC: Spamalot. Watch it and you’ll understand why! It’s Monty Python and the Holy Grails Musical! Perfection!
LA: What is your dream role to play on stage?
RC: Anita in West Side Story, No Doubt!!!! Oh and also Rizzo in Grease! Maybe Reno in Anything Goes as Well.
