For Young Artists and Emerging Professionals
PRAXIS: Summer Young People's Company
About the company
In the summer of 2016 Lyric Arts will start the first year of Praxis, a student company for ages 14 to 21 that provides mentorship and training in theatrical production: performance, design, promotion, and management.
Company members will spend the first five weeks taking classes, working with professional mentors, rehearsing, designing, and building a show. The final week will be full days of dress rehearsals and public performances. All Praxis members will be exposed to the art, craft and business of theater—from managing budgets to building sets to performing onstage. With help from a dedicated group of teaching artists, participants will be responsible for producing their own show.
How to participate
Praxis is a tuition-based hands-on internship program with additional support provided by outside funding. Participants will pay a fee, submit an application form, and audition/interview for their placement in the company. Spots are limited and, although all company members will take most classes together and help out with all aspects of theatrical production, the interview and audition process will determine their primary position (actor, designer/technician, manager, etc.) in the company.
Monday–Friday, Jul 11–Aug 21 from 9am–4pm
Performances on Aug 19–21
Application Deadline: May 1, 2016
If you would like to apply for a position in the program, please complete the online form to the right. If you're applying to be an actor, we'll contact you to set up an audition. If you're applying to be a design, directing, or marketing intern, we'll contact you to set up a portfolio interview.

Auditions at Lyric Arts are open to everyone. We ask each actor to complete an audition form upon arrival with information about experience, conflicts, etc. so we think that its best for you to bring an adult with you if you are under the age of 18. There are separate auditions for each show so the best way to find out all the details is to visit the Auditions page and click on the show title.
Theater for Young Performers
While some of our productions have opportunities for young actors, 2015-2016 is the first year for our Theater for Young Performers production program. Scripts for these productions are specifically selected because the great majority of the roles are intended for young actors. This program focuses on providing important and challenging opportunities for performers, designers and theater technicians under the age of 18. From auditions to the final bow, the cast and crew in these shows will experience what it's like to participate as artists in their own right in the creation of a fully-realized theatrical production. A dedicated team of professional designers, directors, and technicians will use their expertise to encourage you to explore your artistic voice and to discover more about yourself.
Lyric Arts provides space for our Teaching Artists to provide private coaching in audition prep, musical theater, Shakespearean acting, and more. Lessons are by appointment and at the discretion of each individual coach (subject to space availability). Fees are also set by each individual coach. Visit our Teen Page to find out more about our coaches and how to set up your lessons.
Internships and Mentorships
Lyric Arts offers custom-tailored one-on-one mentorships and departmental internships throughout the school year and summer months. These are awarded on a case-by-case basis so that we can make the best match between each professional and student. Past opportunities have included design and technical theater mentorships and internships in marketing and development.
