Grades 6-8

Our middle school programs help young actors to continue to build a solid foundation while also providing opportunities for more experienced young artists to dig deeper into more specialized topics. We use tried-and-true as well as innovative theatrical exercises to encourage creativity, build confidence, and foster ways to work together as a group.

Our bootcamps provide students with experience in rehearsing and performing for an audience. They also dig deeper into developing specific artistic skills such as developing a character, playwriting; technical theater and design, and more.

Next Stage workshops provide training in the three skills that make a successful musical theater actor: singing, dancing, and acting.

Musical Theater: Movie Musicals

From The Greatest Showman to Newsies, Hairspray, and an entire list of animated films, the movies are full of songs and characters that are perfect for the stage. Using songs from movie musicals, young performers will grow musical theater skills—strong voices, expressive movement, and character creation—while increasing their confidence as performers.

Tuesdays, Oct 23–Dec 11, 4:45–6:15 pm (8 sessions)

COST: $130 tuition

Improv Bootcamp

Bootcamp classes are meant to introduce new students to the basics while giving experienced students an opportunity to brush up on their skills. This four-week class will touch on warm-ups, object work, storytelling, trusting your instincts, and “always saying yes”—all in a fun and collaborative environment.

Saturdays, Nov 3–Dec 15, 9:00–10:30 am (6 sessions, no class Nov. 24)

COST: $100 tuition

NEXT STAGE (grades 7–12)

Lyric Arts’ Next Stage classes are for students who are interested in a deeper exploration of performance skills and techniques in a nurturing and non-competitive environment, designed to build confidence and support young people’s growth as actors and artists.

Acting Technique

Great acting starts with great technique. This class will use monologues and scenes from existing scripts to teach skills such as accessing your creativity, breaking down a script, creating truthful characters, and developing a strong and flexible body and voice—no matter your experience level.

Mondays, Oct 22–Dec 17, 4:45–6:15 pm (8 sessions, no class on Dec 3)

COST: $130 tuition

Vocal Showcase

Singing and acting are two very different skills that are more effective when used together. This five-week class gives performers to opportunity to focus their singing technique and the musical theater skill of “acting the song.”

Wednesdays, Nov 7–Dec 12, 4:45–6:15 pm (5 sessions, no class on Nov 21)

COST: $85 tuition
