Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Three

Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Three: Our set thus far is proof positive that the saying “heavy hands make light work” as our set is coming together rapidly with the help of our skilled volunteers!  Rehearsal should be interesting tonight as the actors familiarize themselves with walking at an angle!

Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Two

Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day Two: Lyric Arts is excited to announce that we are building our first raked stage!  What’s that, you ask?  That is where the back of the stage is at a higher level than the front of the stage, but it still looks like a “normal” floor because it is angled only slightly.  So all of the platforms that can be seen on the back of the stage will become that “raked” stage.  What other productions have you seen with a raked stage that you can think of?

Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day One:

Evolution of a Set: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: Day One:

Welcome to our 10th year on the Main Street Stage and our first Evolution of a Set series!  August is our “dark” month where the staff tries to get things caught up, but it really isn’t dark as we are still working on projects and building sets.  This Evolution of a Set is neat because our Technical Director is bringing to life the ideas from Scenic Designer Todd Edwards.

And the cast is currently using the furniture you see on stage to block their movements, but it may not necessarily be the furniture they use on stage.  Also, the backdrop will probably not keep the “Connect Four” look that we had for the production All Shook Up.  So it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work on bringing this set to life!

Guess who got engaged!

July 19th, 2010 No comments »

Lyric Arts is thrilled to announce the engagement of Wade Fields and Shana Eisenberg who play, respectively, “Natalie’s Daddy, Jim Haller” and “Miss Sandra” in our summer production of All Shook Up.

After the final number of the show, in front of a sold-out house (partially filled with Wade and Shana’s friends and family), Wade announced to the crowd that because they were such a fantastic audience they would receive a “bonus scene.”  The unscripted moment was a surprise to not only Shana but the rest of the cast, too.

After serenading her with Elvis’ own “It’s Now or Never,” Wade got down on one knee, pulled a ring from his pocket, and asked Shana (who, coincidentally, was wearing a wedding dress) if she would do him the honor of becoming his wife.  To the delight of the audience and the rest of the cast, amid a standing ovation, a tearful Shana accepted.

The two had been dating for three and a half years after meeting while acting in a production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers .  Shana explained, “I was his bride and he was my brother; who knew I would end up being proposed to onstage?”

Wade had been planning the engagement for nine months. “When we received our parts in All Shook Up, I knew this would be the perfect setting to ask Shana to marry me,” commented Fields. Shana was in complete shock by the onstage proposal, but said “I can’t think of a better way to be proposed to than on stage with all of our friends and family in the audience…it was a very special moment.”

Lyric Arts was thrilled to be a part of the surprise proposal, the first on the Main Street Stage!  We wish them uncountable years of happily married bliss and hope that they spend many of them sharing their gifts with us on the Main Street Stage!

Come and see Shana and Wade perform in All Shook Up now until August 1 at Lyric Arts Main Street Stage. For tickets visit www.lyricarts.org or call the Lyric Arts Box Office at 763-422-1838.
