Lyric Arts is taking a different approach to Evolution of a Set for All Shook Up.  We’ll resist saying we’re “Shaking Things Up”, we will…we promise…

6/25/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: “All Shook Up”. This may seem confusing that in one week we have transformed the “Father of the Bride” set into….a blank-ish set. But that’s because all of the building is happening in Lyric Arts’ Scene Shop!

6/26/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: All Shook Up: Elvis’ famous pink Cadillac…just miniaturized. Watch the process on how we got it down to the stage!

6/26/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: All Shook Up: Not everyone was quite ready to lift yet…oops.

6/26/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: All Shook Up: Now we are all ready and trying to get our footing.

6/26/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: All Shook Up: And the journey begins….Up and over the railings!

6/26/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: All Shook Up: It took six grunting people to lift this monster! (Note: The grunting ensued after lifting, not before).

6/26/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: All Shook Up: 20 Steps of Terror.

6/26/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: All Shook Up: And we’re almost to the bottom!

6/26/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: All Shook Up: Success! Pink Cadillac on stage for All Shook Up! Now that’s how its done.

7/1/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: All Shook Up: Welcome to Lyric Arts’ Scene Shop! Technical Director Patrick Vital-Schwartz has volunteers working on different elements of the rolling set that we mentioned earlier. Ever seen the Scene Shop before? Its pretty neat.

7/1/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: All Shook Up: Another view of our hard-working volunteers painting the rolling set pieces. Did you know that the Scene Shop is also the Orchestra Pit for most of our musicals? Everything is controlled by a video camera on the stage and on the Musical Conductor. Take notice next time you’re in the theater.

7/2/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: All Shook Up: Yes, this is blurry, but that’s because we needed to show you how cool the lighting is going to be for this show!  Also, a rare look at the back of set pieces!

7/5/2010, 11:00 a.m. Evolution of a Set: All Shook Up:  We take the game “Connect Four” very seriously at Lyric Arts:). Can you guess how many circles there are? (Note: If you have the time to count these, you are perfect for volunteering at Lyric Arts).

Ok, I’m hooked. This was a great way to introduce me to Lyric Arts. I have tickets for All Shook Up, my first show at the Lyric Arts but I am certin, even before I see the curtain go up, that it will not be my last. Thank you for this wonderful, albeit I am sure small, look at what you do to make a show happen.

  3. Jeremie (the new-ish volunteer) says:

Great to be down in the trenches with Patrick, Don, Pat, and Taylor building the set for “All Shook Up”. Even better seeing the cast rock the show so tough! Thanks to my Lyrics Arts peeps – Paula, Patrick, Laura, Joanna and…oh yeah, Erin for welcoming me into the fold. Looking forward to getting a whole bunch more t-shirts sweaty with honest-to-goodness scene shop labor!
