Sean Byrd, Director

Mr. A’s Amazing Maze Plays will mark Sean’s directing debut on the Lyric Arts stage.  A Twin Cities actor/director/teacher for the last ten years, Sean has performed with such companies as Yellow Tree Theatre (most recently in their production of Expecting Isabel) as well as 15 Head: A Theatre Lab, The Minnesota Shakespeare Project, Fifty Foot Penguin Theatre, Pig’s Eye Theatre, Sandbox Theatre and Hardcover Theatre.  Sean’s work as a professional director has been seen across the country from Illinois to Texas and locally in the Minnesota Fringe Festival, with Billow Theatre Ensemble, CLIMB Theatre and as a guest director at Wayzata High School.  He has directed and taught theatre classes for the Lakeville and Anoka-Hennepin school districts as well as for the Children’s Theatre Company of Minneapolis.  Most recently he directed the premiere of the new play Burned for Table Salt Productions at the Gremlin Theatre in St. Paul.  Upcoming directing projects include Doubt at Southwest Minnesota State University in February and the recent hit Broadway musical [title of show] for Yellow Tree Theatre in April.

Aside from his freelance work, Sean is a full-time faculty member in the Department of Theatre at Normandale College in Bloomington where recent directing credits include Urinetown (the musical), Romeo and Juliet, The Diviners and Man of La Mancha.

Sean holds a BFA in Acting/Directing from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas and an MFA in Performance Studies from Western Illinois University.
