Shirley's crush on Jackie, a cute boy in class, is mentioned throughout the script, but nothing comes of it. There is mutual attraction between Mr. Hilton and Miss Glace, resulting in some romantic tension between the two, but with only a single kiss seen onstage.

Mr. & Mrs. Abramowitz each consume a glass of schnapps in a celebratory scene. Otherwise, there are no references or consumption of drugs or alcohol.
What Families Can Talk About...
Coney Island Christmas provides a good opportunity to discuss with young people the importance of diversity and tolerance to the American experience, the identity crisis that immigrants can face when emigrating to a new land, and how both the similarities and differences between cultures can bring people closer together.
