Coney Island Christmas

Age Recommendation

Recommended for ages 6 and up. As a courtesy to our guests, children under the age of 5 will not be admitted.

Approximate Running Time

One Act: 75-90 minutes (no intermission).

There is almost no offensive language – see the list below for details.

G*d: spoken once
J*sus Chr*st: spoken twice (in the context of the person)
*sses: spoken once (in the context of donkeys)

The only threat of physical violence is a single name-calling spat between schoolchildren Henry and Ira that is stopped by a teacher before any fight can actually begin.

Shirley's crush on Jackie, a cute boy in class, is mentioned throughout the script, but nothing comes of it. There is a romantic subplot between Mr. Hilton and Miss Glace, with romantic tension onstage between the two, with only a single kiss seen onstage.

Drinking, Drugs, and Smoking

Mr. & Mrs. Abramowitz each consume a glass of schnapps. Otherwise, there are no references or consumption of drugs or alcohol.

What Families Can Talk About...

Coney Island Christmas provides a good opportunity to discuss with young people the importance of diversity and tolerance to the American experience, the identity crisis that immigrants can face when emigrating to a new land, and how both the similarities and differences between cultures can bring people closer together.
