One character participates in a protest which results in his arrest, but is non-violent and occurs offstage between scenes. Otherwise there are no references or occurrences of violence, onstage or offstage.
If/Then, in reflecting the unknown outcomes based on a seemingly random decision, has different romantic pairings depending on whether "Liz" or "Beth" is onstage. In both timelines, Elizabeth ends up having a one night stand; in one timeline this results in an abortion. This musical also contains well-written characters with non-heteronormative sexualities in healthy, positive relationships.
Drinking, Drugs, and Smoking
Besides a swig of wine drunk by a single character in a single scene, no drugs or alcohol are visibly consumed onstage.
Families Can Talk About…
If/Then provides a good opportunity to speak with young people about the choices we make, the consequences that follow, and the even greater choice of making each moment count.
