At Lyric Arts Main Street Stage, we are committed to providing high-quality learning and performing opportunities and, in the spirit of that mission, we are proud to offer theater workshops, drama classes for groups, and acting lessons for individuals. Our popular workshops offer students the opportunity to develop performing skills and build self-confidence through exercises in song, stage movement, voice projection, acting technique and improvisation. Whether you would like to just get a taste of theater or hone your skills, our workshops provide excellent opportunities for students of all abilities. AGES 13–17 Master Class: Audition Preparation (#10096) The art of auditioning is not a natural born talent. No matter how talented you are, you need to be able to audition well in order to get the role you desire. Auditions are meant to show off your talent, especially if you are a teen seeking a role in this summer’s production of The Boy Friend. These classes will entail bringing some audition materials to the class and having the director look them over and give you pointers from there. The following week, bring your prepared audition to perform for the director and hear feedback before the actual auditions. Shake Your Summer Sillies Out! (#10098) Students will have fun exploring fun and silly ways of using their imaginations and bodies. Emphasis on fun! Instructor: France Roberts 4 sessions: Monday–Thursday, June 16–June 19 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. $160 registration fee, register by May 23 to receive $20 early registration discount!Dance, Tumble, and Roll! (#10099) If your child would like to just "try things out" and learn the basics of dance and movement this is the workshop for your active son or daughter. The instructor is a professional dance teacher who will introduce your students to dance and make sure they have a good time while moving and grooving! Students will create their own superheroes while learning the basics of theater and acting. There will be a short presentation on the final class date. Pirate Legends: Acting for Kids (#10101) Cast off and join the other scallywags in this adventure of legendary pirates! Students will learn about pirate legends and create their own play based on these fun and lively characters! There will be a short performance on the final class date. Instructor: Deborah Schee 8 sessions: Mondays–Thursdays, June 16–June 26 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. $215 registration fee, register by May 23 to receive $20 early registration discount!The Imagination of Harry Potter (#10102 or #10103) This well-written and imaginative series of books and movies will come alive with your help! Students will create a short play based on the characters from the books. Imaginations can have no limit! There will be a short performance on the final class date. Musical Theater for Kids (#10104) Is your child very active and dramatic? Put those natural talents to good use! This workshop is looking for those students that can’t seem to help breaking into song and dance. It is also a good workshop for students who may desire to express themselves more. Learn about music, movement, and acting in musical theater. Acting for Teens (#10105) In this workshop teens will develop their skills in monologues, improvisation techniques, scene study and stage presence. All skill levels welcome, as the teacher will be able to work individually with students. There will be a short performance on the final class date. This class will develop students' blossoming skills as live performers and will focus on building strength in each of the basic skills used in musical theater: singing, dancing, and acting. All skill levels welcome! Not a great singer? Learn to “speak-sing” a song. Not a strong dancer? Learn to fake the steps and have the audience loving you!
